Mission Statement
The LDBF mission is to enhance and potentially prolong the lives of people with PD through non-contact boxing training programs taught in a safe and supportive environment. Vigorous and intense boxing training is combined with intentional mind-body strengthening and goal-oriented coordination techniques with the goal of slowing disease progression, lessening symptom severity, enhancing safety, prolonging independence, encouraging socialization and promoting physical, emotional and cognitive well-being.
LDBF seeks to:
- Educate those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and their care givers about the importance of vigorous exercise.
- Enhance the medical community’s awareness of the LDBF Boxing Training for Parkinson’s program and convince them to prescribe participation in this community-based exercise program at first diagnosis, as well as at every follow up appointment.
- Create an accessible and fun exercise infrastructure and a social and support experience, which encourages continued participation through peer reinforcement.
